Love's Demise Poem by Neha Kaushik

Love's Demise

Her gleaming eyes deceived everyone,
but to him they were like mirrors,
unwittingly evincing desolation,
reflecting her misery and solitariness,
holding a stupendous wave of emotions,
which flooded her eyes in secretive silence,
making her transparent in long dark nights,
he, like her shadow, stood at a distance.

perusing her thoroughly,
as if life has left its marks
distinctly on her vacuous face.
Her pain and sufferings slashed his soul,
tearing him into several pieces,
burning him in the flame of her agony,
living like a dead man,
life became a curse for him.

but nothing he could have done,
for he was paralyzed by her words,
they were like god's sermon for him,
and he accepted it as his law,
but punishing himself for his helplessness,
he gashed his wrist,
red colored satin ribbons covered the ground,
running in all directions, they even stained her raiment.

Startled she stood up trying to balance herself,
but she failed, still like a corpse, then recollecting herself she ran,
as if running for her last breath,
carrying the burden of her body and soul, suddenly she stopped.
There he was, lying flat on the soil carpet,
wrapped in a red blanket, taking his last breath.
Her eyes overflowed with the pain and longing of years,
with his soul was gone hers and she was lost in her delirium, never to come back.....
