You slowly open its small lid,
A simple box made of pinewood.
To reveal no incredible mystery,
Just a memory of your childhood.
I will never cast from my heart,
That first time I ever saw you.
With blue violets in your hair,
As you saw me and our love grew.
Older and greyer we've become,
Been married for fifty fine years.
Life's hardships well behind us,
And only in joy we now cry tears.
From the box you gently lift them,
Placing them softly in your hair.
For you too have not forgotten,
Violet memories we both do share.
