A Black Eyed Susan, I do be
Wildflower found in the New World.
When colonists did first see me,
An American beauty unfurled.
They did choose to give me the name
Of a Black Eyed Susan of poem,
Who hoped her beloved William came
Back from the seas and safely home.
So if you seed Sweet William with
Me, we will grow up side by side,
And like lovers in truth not myth
We'll fill a gardener's heart with pride.
My blooms of gold, his purple red
Same time and place, a lovely bed.
