Lovers Final Parting Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Lovers Final Parting

You knew this time would come with cancer overwhelming
When I would be forced to leave you, not by choice
Because life's journey had come to its end
Forcing me to leave you, beloved beat of my heart.
Breaking my promise to you made half-a-century ago
When we were young lovers, strong and beautiful in our love
Bold and resolute, finding such happiness and joy
Thinking that we had found love's lasting paradise.
I promised never to leave you with our souls united as one.
Death, ruthless and relentless, calls me to the grave
And I must answer the call and step into the darkness.
Know you are the love of my life, my darling girl
Forgive me for breaking the promise I made
Remember, love survives the grave, we shall meet again.
