Make It Through - Poem by Mary Roach

The feeling of excitement filled the air
Slowly the intensity built
The waiting was long and hard
The controlling of one’s self is a difficult thing when faced with a problem as great as this
The confusion, the devastation, the isolation of it all drove me crazy
Not knowing…. Not knowing what tomorrow would bring is a scary thing
Being forced to withstand a task that no human should be made to go through
Anticipation
Suspense building
Slow breaths
In
Out
In
Out
Slowly your heart rate slows allowing you to think straight
Suddenly you realize that you did it
You made it through
You won
You fought the good fight and you came out on top
The memories haunt you but the smell of sweet success over powers the harsh thoughts
You sigh
And sigh
As crazy as it may seem, you feel happy to have accomplished so much
