A village was flooded
Leaving many dead,
A man who could not swim
Managed to climb a tree,
Latter, a crow joined him—
On one end of the tree, he,
Crow on far end and unfazed,
And carefree as always!
Now, if the branch to which man clings
Breaks, he'd sure fall to die,
But the crow can take to wings,
And here's the reason why:
O enjoy mundane things,
This world is sure in it to live,
But ever be ready to leave,
Never depend on things.

Thanks, dependence is another name for bondage, freedom is detachment from things

I would like to translate this poem
So true, Aniruddha ji. Man clings on to his wealth, possessions, status etc. He clings on to his life too, unable to give up. In Yoga, we call it Abhinivesa - excessive desire and attachment. But a crow is considered to be a very wise bird. It has no claims at all. A poem with a profound philosophy that i enjoyed reading. Thank you Sir....10
Yes, abhi-nivesha, that is the Sanskrit word, excessive accumulation/gathering, and hence greed. Thanks, but we must also thank Dr Ranade...
