Mars Poem by Amber Piercy

Mars

Mars

You hold all of my stars in your pocket
They shine so bright
Just like a flying rocket
As it catches flight

You polish each one
With your delicate hands
Like an orbiting sun
That never lands

You catch them before they fade
Like a firefly in the night
Each one is carefully made
With the purest light

Hold me close to you
So I can feel your radiating heat
Inside of this deep blue
Where the Earth and the sky meet

Slide your hands over mine
I want to kiss you so
Your lips taste like wine
The light begins to grow

I want you to whisper to me
And catch all my stars
Without you I simply wouldn't be
Just like living on Mars

The fire engulfs each lung
It burns me alive inside
Scorching me with a twisted tongue
I have nowhere to hide

Engulfed I burn
Completely down to ashes
I lie twisting with each turn
My heart and ego crashes

You can't stop this rocket
It's flying too damn fast
Please hang on to the stars in your pocket
Before they too whiz on past

I try to crash into Earth
But I have nowhere to land
Without you there's no rebirth
Like crashing into quicksand

The stars start to die
The Earth catches my fall
I look up to the black sky
As I feel so small

Your hands wasn't there to stop me
But at least you caught the stars
Can you hold my insanity
while I burn like Mars
