Maybe We Wasted Our Time Poem by Phillip Nine Mafunga

Maybe We Wasted Our Time

It has never occured to me
That a society would dream of a day
One so beautiful that rivers would
Sparkle and smile with freedom
Wherein its young swam and frolic
In the croc free and transparent waters

Of the future where the gifted ackquired knowledge
For knowledge in the heart of a fool
Is just as good as the banned DDT chemical
The greedy and the needy are at crossroads right now
I don't know what to make of it
But history gives me hope about the outcome
For long sustained fear breeds abrupt need for survival
