Some finished and unfinished poems
By dead maritime poets
Stubbornly refuse to succumb
Within small notebooks
It falls to certain loved ones
To ensure that they are not forgoten
And thus, they will have a chance of survival

Quite independent
Quite original
It is the Mediterranean
And I, as a devoted admirer
Could write wonderful poems
About its ingenious identity
But whether they would
Ever become a book
Who knows?
Not even the Mediterranean
Itself knows
Whereas, it is a foremost
Maritime poet
Who, to this day
Has not penned a single poem
It is the Mediterranean
Quite independent
Quite original
