Meet You At The Gate Poem by Pearl L Johns

Meet You At The Gate

A dusty road
Separating your home from mine.
Divided only by a gate.
Two little girls,
Friends from birth
Joined together by fate.

So many memories
All happy, none sad
Of days spent at that old gate.
Just an old gate to most
But when we crossed over
magic would await.

We would go on an adventure
To a fantasy world
Where dreams could come true.
For the two little girls
Who to show their loyalty forever
Became blood sisters while sitting on grass covered in dew.

Many hours and days
Spent sitting under the sun dappled leaves
Of the old hackberry tree.
Sharing secrets, and wishes
Sharing hopes and dreams
Of what we wanted our lives to be.

Many years have passed now
Since we met at that old gate
But every once in a while.
I hear a faint sound in my mind
Of two little girls laughing and playing
And my heart has to smile.

Often I step out onto my porch
And look down that dusty road
And as I stand there and wait.
I hear a little girl’s voice
Holler out to the other
Meet you at the gate.

For Ilesa a sister of my heart.
