Memoirs (In English) - रम्य ते बालपण (In मराठी) - Poem by Kavya ...

Your childhood
I want to cherish,
These precious times
I want to relish.

I am feeling so lost baby
amidst the busy life chores,
Before time slips away
I want to love you even more.

Today you plead for my time
to have my company,
Here I realise the lack of ability
and my heart cries in agony.

One day you too will grow
and enter this busy world,
Will you then have time for me baby
as these moments would soon get unfurled.

This riddle of life
am still trying to solve,
These times and moments lost
will they ever re-evolve?

So I would like to live life NOW
and be content,
I don't wanna lose my precious times too but
grab them this very moment!

Poet's Notes about The Poem

This is a write for my son who is 4 yrs old now and I feel kids grow up fast. I am not able to be with him all the while amidst the busy life chores and I want to spend as much time as I can and be with him so that I can drown myself in his innocence and childhood pranks.

(This I had written initially in Marathi and then made an attempt to translate in English too for the sake of my PH friends. But not sure if I have been able to justify the English version as I personally feel the Marathi version to be more meaningful and stronger. Those who can follow Marathi script may please read and comment. Thank you.

Comments welcome on the English version too. Thanks: -)

My seven year old cousin nowadays seem to heavy to be held in my arms and the piggyback rides too feel so difficult. While another cutie I had befriended, who is just 3 years and 5 months old seem too little to be picked up and even too enthusiastic for the horseback rides, cuddles and cute kisses. Truly, as a man, I would never understand how a mother feels about her child. But looking at these two and how they mirror each other and how they are different - the seven year old was just like the three when he was of her age - I can feel that they really grow fast! ! Thank you for this sweet poem.. I cant read the Marathi script, yet poems like these speak an universal language, just like the word 'ma' - it's same everywhere... Thanks for sharing. It's beautiful and emotional... (Report) Reply

Agree Souren, kids grow up fast and the sooner we realise this the better we can enjoy the present moment! Thanks for your comments on this write

The regret you have expressed here is my regret too and the regret of most of the working ladies! I am happy you have realized it at a young age! Now in the evening of my life, when I look back, I am torn by a prick of conscience that I didn't spend enough time with my children. In my enthusiasm to teach my students, I didn't help my children even in their studies....... Now I ask myself the question.....' will you have time for me baby'? Hope they would realize how hard it is to combine the office and the home. A touching poem Kavya! (Report) Reply

Yeah Mam true..lack of time amidst the busy chores makes us repent at a later stage - the later phase is however too much time at our disposal and having nothing to do or no one to ask for as now they are all busy the way we were once upon a time! The cycle of life it is!
