Message Sent Poem by Justin Williams

Message Sent

It’s been five minutes…

You still haven’t text me back.

I ended with a question.

A reply is expected from that…

My hand is near my phone

Your text I eagerly await…

But the room is still silent.

It’s still yet to vibrate.

Maybe I have got a message but It came when I looked away?

Maybe the volume needs turning up in case I don’t hear the tone play?

Their battery has probably gone dead and the adapter lost on the floor?

What if they’re out of credit and it’s too late to get some more?

After fifteen minutes has past I don’t think you’re gonna text back.

And I can’t exactly text you again, to encourage a counter attack.

Maybe their phone’s upstairs and they fail to hear the tone?

What if when I sent my text it went to the wrong phone?

What if their phone fell out of their pocket and smashed into pieces on the ground?

Maybe they have gone to bed and my message is yet to be found?

I’ll keep my phone as close as possible, your text will be coming soon.

Why aren’t you texting me back?

Did your inbox not have room?

Lets face it, you’ve already read my message… you got it as soon as it came.

But then you blatantly ignored my question… and carried on the same!

Maybe it’s because I think more of you than you think of me?

It’s hard to know what you’re thinking when your text I can’t see.

Or maybe the message has already arrived, but not as text on my phone?

Maybe the absence of a reply is the message that you want me to leave you alone?

I wake-up and check the display and doubt has planted its seed.

The messages that you don’t send from your phone are a lot harder to read.

I sit…

and wait…

But you’re still not texting.
