Midnight Call Poem by Chris Jibero

Midnight Call

Rating: 5.0

sleep took flight on the wings
of loneliness
so initiated I a midnight call
but kroom, kroom, kroom,
was the greeting that filled
the void in my company-seeking
ear and 'no answer' came bouncing
boldly on my face
to declare you fast asleep

and the image of serenity
and tranquility
which you display on a fulfilled
bed filled
my beseeching bosom
how graceful your measured
breath that lifts and gently drops
how happy your soul in angelic
concourse
how relaxed your nerves
resting from the fast life
of Lagos
how joyful your brain
replaying the day's videos
and beaming its satellite
on events of tomorrow

I can see the beckoning
of your perfumed body
smell the deodorant in your
fanning breath
see your lingerie exhibiting
tantalizing wares not for sale
as your pillows triumphantly smile
one being honoured by your
rapturous embrace
and the other plugged its lips
on your charming cheek
in unending kisses
your bed can I see too with its
sheets in ecstasy as a man enveloped
by a luscious, untainted maiden
as sleep now lays its heavy hands
on my eyelids being flown back
in the cockpit of peaceful thoughts
that have deputised for a botched
midnight call.
