Misconceptions(Cutthroat) Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Misconceptions(Cutthroat)

Once shown to be made known,
How one travels to the extreme.
To disrespect and demean another that seems,
Left defenseless.
Yet has proven to be kind.
With empathy given unquestionably sincere.
This by some is a sign of weakness.
To believe accepted to convince,
A backbone is missing.
And also mental and physical strength.
So many have minds distorted by images.
With symbols to idolize.

Misconceptions begin.
When what is labelled defies,
Reality to live it.
Misconceptions begin.
When many accept delusions to believe them.
Leaving misconceptions,
Disappointments to face.
As a kindness to give it,
Returns in a game of cutthroat.
On someone knowing how that game is played.
In ways not popularly taught.
Or thought one could teach in such a unique way.

"You are a cruel unprincipled person."

-Says the victimizer.
Caught by surprise.
By one picked to be victimized.
And...
Save your flattery.
I am much too modest for that.-

"You are a despicable low down rat."

-Stop it.
You are bringing me to tears.
Had I known you would lavish upon me praise,
I would have brought with me tissue.
Although...
I must admit your response overwhelms me.
Who do you know would treat others,
To leave them...
Cruel and unprincipled.
Cutthroat.
A despicable low down rat?
Hmmmm?
Is this a mystery to you?
It shouldn't be.
My approach is direct.
A backstabber you are.
My performances are personal.
I find the doing,
Much more effective.
How do you like me now? ! -
