Misleading Maxims Poem by RAJ NANDY

Misleading Maxims

MISLEADING MAXIMS!

‘Sorrow shared with others is reduced,
While our happiness gets doubled! ’
In trying to follow this maxim dear
friends,
I had invited a lot of trouble!
For none had time for my sorrows,
Nor did they have time for my pain!
A friend in need is no friend of mine, -
Was the rule of the game!
But when I won a bumper prize,
So many friends suddenly came!
Some faces even appeared new,
And I failed to recall their name!
Soon my winnings were reduced to
less than half,
And my joy never did double, it only got
halved!
Never try to follow these maxims in real
life,
Should you want to avoid a lot of trouble!
For nothing is lost and everything is gained,
If you tackle your own troubles!
Though I have penned these lines, all in
a lighter vain;
If you don’t believe me, you may try it
out all the same!
But while doing so, do not make any
undue haste,
For many a true word is often spoken in
a jest!
