Money Can Corrupt Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Money Can Corrupt

There is so much,
Money to have it can do,
Constructively to produce.
If used for that purpose.
To be witnessed.

Yet money can corrupt.
The mind and body.
With this done to pursue.
Especially by the ones,
Either given it not to earn.
Or stealing it from others,
To declare it theirs to own.
While deceiving many to believe,
Those already at a disadvantage...
Are the culprits.
Enemies and the thieves.
Wishing to change beliefs.
And they are the ones,
Needing to go back...
From where they came from.

And...
If this should ever happen,
As those declaring it their wish to see.
Should those going back,
To places where their ancestors came.
Should they also assess,
What had been stolen from them.
Including inventions.
A variety of foods introduced.
Clothing worn produced in other countries.
And what about,
The sporting and entertainment industry?
TVs and appliances.
And...
Who would clean the houses.
Office buildings.
Or sweep the filthy streets?

Money can corrupt and delude.
Especially the ones who have it.
Sitting on their butts,
Ordering Chinese, Mexican...
And pizza delivered.
Treating on ignorance to feed upon.
And not history to appreciate,
Who had allowed them...
To live,
Thoughtless, self anointed.
Disrespectful lives.
