Monsoon Memories Poem by Bishnupada Sethi

Monsoon Memories

The skies of evening hours
Soon looked darker.
Pitter patter sounds of rain drops,
Near and distant thunders
Brought soothing music to my ears.
The breeze picked up speed and swung.
I'd be overwhelmed by the cool weather
For monsoon is not a season-
It's a mood.

Sooner I'd fall asleep
Feeling blissful.

Little did I realise then, years ago-
Someone was becoming restless
Keeping awake whole night
Apprehending the river flowing by the village
To jump it's embankment.
The wind could gather strength and
The rains become ceaseless.

He maintained a constant vigil
Over the mud walls of the ancestral house
With roof not so strong.
There was prayer in the lips
Let the dark night be soon over.
