(in response to Chaled Res' painting 'Green Moon of Love')
... ... ... ... ... ... ...
In the chlorophyll of a leaf there is a tiny moon
When struck by sunlight it answers with a gleam
It weaves little baskets to contain its excitement
And carry hidden light through its succulent metabolism
On our forest walks its green face is always turned toward us
In springtime its sequestered energy infuses the sap of a maple
It is OUR business to render the sap into maple syrup
