Music As Holy Ascent Poem by Daniel Brick

Music As Holy Ascent

So long ago
Music brought Heaven
close to Earth, and gave
suffering humanity Joy,
as they labored every day
and night for masters who cared
only for what sword and spear achieved.

Some laborers conceived higher
hopes, and nurtured them in an
atmosphere of inner freedom. And Music
blessed that nascent freedom
with the gift of spirit flight.
Music is both Ascent and Descent,
and both directions are heavenward.

Today, laborers no longer, we are
the Adepts who can bring Heaven down
or raise seekers to the empyrean.
With GRUPPEN we announce our mission;
STIMMUNG purges souls of the ascendents, and
CARRE celebrates their bonding as a visionaries.
INORI is the praise-song that makes all one.

STERNKLANG links our individual minds
with the Cosmic Mind, as we ascend beyond planetary
knowledge. SATURDAY from LIGHT frees us from
sensory limitations. Through LIGHTS - WATERS
we open our hearts to love, and through MANTRA
we open our minds to gnosis. With MICHAELION
we look back at Earth with deepest love.

LIGHT - PICTURES show us the first wonders
of our new existence. HARLEQUIN teaches us
the laughing wisdom that replaces the Aeschylean
wisdom gained only through suffering. We experience
MICHAEL'S HOMECOMING as our homecoming, and MICHAEL'S
JOURNEY AROUND THE EARTH will be our memory of mortality.
We will soon join the ANGELIC PROCESSION, for which

Stockhausen has composed a new Heavenly score for our apotheosis.

Music can truly lift us beyond the mundane. Through music, we can come to a spiritual awareness of ourselves. You have a deep understanding of music n its power that you render here so beautifully. Man has always tried to attain a sense of freedom n a connection with universe through music. A philosophical write that pays an apt tribute to music. Well conceived n crafted.

Your view of music is so eloquent, Nosheen. You don't just hear sounds in space; you are also put in an altered higher state. You are still Nosheen, but it is Nosheen + the spiritual awareness you cite, and that sense of freedom is a precious inner resource. The thing about the Ravel String Quartet is that it is airy and spacious, never glum and heavy. But what music do you listen to for such an experience?

These two lines are so quotable: 'Music is both Ascent and Descent, / and both directions are heavenward.' I don't get absolutely everything in this one. The visionary is very forward thinking...I am guessing there is some SciFi in here with the word ADEPTS....(my son has a Sci Fi book with the title Agents and Adepts) ....Some beautiful lines in here!
