Mving With The King [from 'proverbs 400' In Tamil] Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Mving With The King [from 'proverbs 400' In Tamil]

266. O, wench wearing magnificent jewels!
The toddy-drinkers aren't restraint. The dukes
rely on the king with a chariot and flag.
No worries if they act slow on King's commands.

267. When the victorious spear holding king commands
to do an act, it is foolish to rebel.
Carry out his orders with joy. The commands
of the king to act are like commands to eat.

268. "You're my kin. Do this for me", when the king said,
his kin who're ready to give their life for him,
said, "we can't do it now". It likens one sure
of the banyan tree say of it as 'Poolan'.

269. O, chief of the coast with palms and the petals!
Don't fear the invincible kings by acting
against them. Please the kings with good deeds.
Then you will have wealth not abound in the sea.

270. The palm fruit falls at the foot of th' mother-tree.
When the king commands to do some acts in joy
the uses of the acts done go to the doers
and not to the king who gives orders.

271. O, wench with bright jewels and growing pale skin!
The horns of a brave bull are sharper. Those wags
around the warring kings don't fear. Their minds
don't shatter as they fear no one.

272. O, wench with well thought-out soft tresses! The ghee
stored in a usual bowl is apt keep it.
Those who are in the good books of the king
will have respect of the citizens.

273. O, man with chest wearing ornaments! Those who
move together with manly kings
don't beg for anything in want. The habit
of not begging brings them all the wealth.

274. One who depends on the support of a king
helps him who carries out the king's orders
to get his hand. It likens the calf which licks
the neck of the cow and sucks not at the tits.

275. Though you're like the life of the famous king
the servants in the palace get quick chances.
Know the proper time and tell your grievance
with mellow words. Nothing is impossible.
