My Beloved Abroad
My beloved dwells in a distant land,
Having left his home and hearth behind;
I, in sorrow, keep a constant watch,
Waiting for the moment he returns to my side.
I adorn myself and gaze at my reflection,
Smiling as I look into the mirror;
Yet, with my beloved nowhere near,
I remain forlorn through every hour of the day.
Of what use is this life,
If the boat of existence lacks a guide?
Who shall ferry me to the other shore,
Without the boatman of love to steer the way?
Adorn yourself, savor the essence of life,
Stand by one another through joy and sorrow;
Then the boat of life shall set sail,
And the boatman shall ferry me across.
