My Best Friend Poem by Dustin Smith

My Best Friend

Rating: 5.0

He was a man I saw everyday;
He was there to tell me everything would be okay.
He was the guy that could make me laugh;
He was the man that led me down the right path.
His presence in my heart turned me into a man;
I'm proud to say he was my best friend.

I use "was" because he has gone away;
He was sent somewhere better in 2008, one month before the seventh of May.
It all happened when I was eleven;
The day he met with God in heaven.
He passed away at sixty-five years of age;
His story has been written, but there is still a blank page.

I will never forget him and I am proud to have his last name;
But now he is gone, my life has forever been changed.
He was a soldier in the war;
Exposed to Agent Orange and died from a heart so poor.
There is much I didn't say;
But I will save it for when we are reunited some day.
