My Enemy Is Me Poem by Jason R Tschetter

My Enemy Is Me

<My heart sinks when I hear her say his name
a single breath about him burns me within
I promised not to hold my heart for her
But in truth I can not hold that promise
There is deep within me a longing for her
the sweet duress of her kiss
the passion within her song of days
and the heat of her body in the lust of night
I wish I was there with her day after day
But in truth she feels something different
She wants not me
But lusts for another
Why is this my life
Why is this my way
What will become of me
What should befall me
I am alone in this world
So I stand alone
Feeling this burning inside me
I'm my own enemy>
