My Mother Poem by Abdullah Ramadan

My Mother

I woke up, with fear in my heart
A fear of the world, and the night in the dark
The nightmare passed, but it's darkness still there
Then the light came, in the form of her care

She held me tight, as I cried in her arms
And I knew as I laid there, I wouldn't come to harm
She listened as I told her, of my nightmare past
And so she told me, 'Don't worry it won't last.'

And as I succumbed, to the peace of sleep
Over me came blankets, in a great big heap
This is my mother, my lovely mother
And no one can replace her, no other
