My Musings Ii Poem by Gayathri Seetharam

My Musings Ii

My musings II
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
Sandra, our friendly neighbour, said:
I will love you and leave you,
After dropping by for a cup of tea which should have
Been shared with my other lovely older neighbouring ladies
Along with my baking creation, The Sky Dome,
Inspired by the spectacular creations on The Great Canadian Baking Show,
But for the fact that I ended up wrestling with a clogged kitchen sink
Helped by my husband
And gratefully took refuge in the capable hands of a professional plumbing service;

I read through an essay on the Canadian poet, Elizabeth Smart, by Dale Hrabi in The Walrus (Dec 2019 issue)
And decided to follow two pieces of her advice
"It was to be black lace for winter"
And I mentally made a note to buy sexy black lingerie
And her other advice to make the verb work
To compose rather than to write beautifully
To create rather than to paint or sculpt beautifully
To contemplate engineering and science rather than to think analytically;

Perhaps, I muse to myself that
Her luck will rub off on me
For she was reputed at one point, to
Be the highest paid commercial writer in England
Having said that, I will buy her collection of prose poetry;

OR I will be blessed with good fortune as an aspiring artist
Like my other older neighbour, Jean, who lives around the street
And paints watercolour landscapes simply stunningly
And has exhibited her paintings in a paid event;

But the finishing touch on a masterpiece
Would be a fair opportunity to get ahead
In my career oriented goals to be published and paid
And for a fair assessment of my technical papers for a Ph.D in Chem/Biochem/Biomed Eng
And succeed or forge ahead as the world's engineers and scientists and doctors.
