My Own Voice Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

My Own Voice

I had heard them in the distance,
Defining for themselves...
Beliefs to accept.
And within my heart,
I had to keep moving forward.
Because in my mind,
I had found my own voice.
And it took a long time,
To comprehend.
With a giving to it my total attention.
And accepting my fate was to stay,
Walking in faith.
To observe it being validated.
