Name Changed Poem by Ima Ryma

Name Changed

Rating: 5.0

'And Then There Were None, ' murder she
Wrote - Agatha Christie of fame,
But titled originally
'Ten Little (the N word) ', ' by name.
Taken from an old minstrel song
Sung by children in counting rhyme,
Not then socially deemed as wrong,
It was a dif'rent place and time.
Whether or not Christie did sense
Use of the first title would be
The source and cause of great offense
Remained an unsolved mystery.

Christie did share that this book might
Be her best but so hard to write.

I read the book when it was called Ten Little Indians. I never knew that the original book, published in 1939, had used the N word. Thanks for the education.
