Never To Avert Your Eyes Poem by gershon hepner

Never To Avert Your Eyes

Never to avert your eyes!
That’s what it means
to be an artist, but
you have to keep them shut
for inner scenes
that, stealthy, take you by surprise.

Eyes that always look ahead
must be prepared for shocks.
That’s how an artist sees
reality striptease,
and knocks the socks
off angels who don’t fear to tread.
