New Year! Poem by Namratha Swamy

New Year!

The spent year has just passed by
ushering in the New Year
The festivities have just begun with pomp and show
albeit with a cautious plan.

The previous year's resolutions are yet to be fulfilled.
This year's have already been made.

Early morning chores are already waiting
as the sun has began his usual ascent.

The fire in the kitchen is to be kept warm
The food on the table has to be well kept.

Children are yet small and dependent.
Their studies, their upbringing is to be looked upon.
Responsibilities are yet to be fulfilled.
Promises are still to be kept.

The early morning fog reminds me
There are promises still to be kept
There are miles to go before I sleep.
Yes, miles to go before I sleep!
