Night Of The Vampire Poem by Aphrodite Anastasia Menegaki

Night Of The Vampire

Sip by sip, taken down by the wine
The colour of blood embraces my decline
And you, a spectator who can't hear my cries
You feed by the pain and savour in demise
Tell me what's in stake and what's the prize
That each night in shadows you disguise
You live, you breathe, yet I feel not your breath
Nor your heart, but the chill of an unworldly strength
A beast, a hunter, and vulture of the night
Alas ever so condemned never to see the light
To see you I cannot, yet I know you are there
I feel your presence in the air, I sense your icy stare
Lurking in the dark; waiting to attack
To steal life, to taste the heartbeat you lack
Tell me is it fear or is it love that I feel?
Is it my soul's dare or alas a dread so real?
Will I feed your thirst or will I set you free?
For there's more than you'd ever let me see
It's my heart who tries your eyes to understand
It's your teeth who load the gun in my hand
Amidst of the night, the hunter becomes the prey
I won't fright, will no longer run away
And in the alleys you used to roam and scare
Two fangs shine sharp against a gun barrel bare
But none pulls the trigger, none dares to leave
Who dares to kill and the loss to grieve?
And the vampire rests his head on a gun barrel cold
"I'd rather see my demise by bullets of silver you hold
Than take your life, and take away my light and gold"
