Night Watchman Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Night Watchman

Rating: 5.0

I am doing this for you
A clarion call, a form of charity, an opportunity you should take
This time I give without expectation of reward is as valuable as any currency
This time will not bend to or entertain your petulance

I am not doing this for someone we both know
Someone who has wrinkled syntax and macabre knees
Who worked as a night watchman on a construction site
And told us he could finish reading one book in a night

I hope you can take what I am giving you
Thrice you are open and the third time you actually listened
Right now, everything hurts between you and me

Hey, there's still soap in the sky
And I'm trying to find a way for it to drip down on us
And make clean every one of our communications going forward
When it rains soap, streets filled with suds will scrub away any interpretation or intent of an ulterior motive
