No God Poem by Raj Dronamraju

No God

Once there was a god
That we made up
To explain fire and babies and lightning and death

Once there was a god
That we used as a weapon
Against types of people we didn't like

Once there was a man
Who was scared of the vastness of the universe
And other natural phenomenon he didn't have the knowledge to explain

Once there was a civilization
That voluntarily put itself in the chains
Of myth and superstition
