No Celebration For Me, This Friday Poem by Hebert Logerie

No Celebration For Me, This Friday

This Friday, my television, and radio will be off.
I will not be watching the official inauguration.
I will not be part of the macabre celebration.
This will be a sad day in America. I will be off.

I will even turn off the small radio in the living room.
Friday will not be a good day for true democracy.
Friday will be a bad day for equality and liberty.
I'll be reading my bible or writing in the bedroom.

Please follow our divine conscience and our curiosity.
Think about the victims of racism, oppression, and bigotry.
Imagine being clobbered by officials, who abused their authority,
And pray for the poor immigrants who've strived in this country.

We are all brothers and sisters who were born with rights.
America is the land of opportunities. Let shine the lights
Of freedom, justice, fairness, equality for all individuals
Living on this lush landscape full of laurels and morals.

America is a huge, prosperous, and well-populated country.
Most Americans are very decent, normal, and hospitable,
Because America is made of immigrants from many, many
Continents. America respects the weak and the disable.

This Friday will be the perfect time to reflect on the past,
To examine or to meditate on the present hour. En masse,
Let's plan for a more fruitful future in America, regardless
Of who is at the helm. We are in America; we are blessed.

This Friday, let's send a strong message of peace and unity.
Together, we shall win. If we are divided, surely we will lose.
Please follow our God's given common sense, and our ability
To understand who are our friends, our enemies or our foes.

I fully comprehend, for some folks; these decisions may be tough,
To have our television, radio, iPod or electronics off.
But, we must learn to make sacrifices, in order to attain our goals.
America is the greatest country on earth; please disregard the polls.
