No More Shame Or Fear Poem by Rm. Shanmugam Chettiar

No More Shame Or Fear

No one who has read in my poetry
The descriptions of human emotion,
So vivid and so exact in details,
Would doubt that I wrote from my experience.

No one who has read in my poetry
The incidences of love and friendships,
So lively and so real in display,
Would doubt that I wrote my biography.

Seasoned and hardened by the rough journey,
I have come at last shame less and fearless
To record the truths in their nakedness,
To be read by the time I’d be no more.

I really like this one. It made me think about the saying I heard recently: by age 20 we feel what others think about us is all important; by age 40 we feel what others think about us is not important; by age 60 we realise that most others do not think about us, they only think about themselves. This is so true. If we realise this, all fears dropp and shame becomes really less. Sharing the eperiences we have had and the lessons without shame or fear is a certain way to make them available for posterity, to eternalise them. I can really connect to this poem. Whatever we say is just flying int he air. What we write remains. Keep writing poetry from your heart without fear. Excellent poem, Ram, I really enjoyed reading it and also the reflection after reading it.
