Lawrence S. Pertillar

One spineless.
Can not be expected,
To sit up straight.
Even strapped into a position,
Of leadership to make demands.
With hands uplifted.
Without a backbone.
Neither loaned to borrow.
Or claim as one's own shown.
Although support is given.
Close and wobbling to stand.
Most observing to compare,
To noodles in chicken soup.
Sharing together in a tremendous bowl,
With a recently opened canned jellied ham.
And expectations for a taste,
Anticipating to be great.
Instead of a stampede of an awaiting crowd,
Exiting quick.
Through formally dressed guards,
Helping them by pushing people out...
Palace gates.
And doing their best to cover their mouths.
Trying to suppress wide smiles and laughter.
Many could not wait for the gates to open.
