Nostradamus - The Poet Astrologer

Rating: 5.0

Nostradamus or Michel de Nostredame,
One word is Latinized, the other is his French name.
He published a book ‘Les Propheties' in 1555.
After that he was afraid, hoping not to shrive.

His book had quatrains in chapters of one hundred.
They are called centuries, in case you wondered.
They were written in mostly in French, but Italian,
Greek and Provencal were used, and some Latin.

Some say the mix was for the meaning to obscure,
Or make it look like poems of Virgil, but no one's sure.
The title of prophet he never did claim.
Predictions by astrology was his aim.

People look to Nostradamus for direction.
That is one thing that I find odd.
If you want to know what will happen,
Why not read the word of God?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem replaces 'Nostradamus' which had an error. I believe I
was a victim of a fraudulent Nostradamus quote on the internet (like some presidential candidates) . I can no longer find the quote. These appear to be the real quatrains:
http: //www.crystalinks.com/quatrains.html

According to Wikipedia, Nostradamus never claimed to be a prophet
but claimed to base his predictions on judicial astrology. He was
criticized by professional astrologers of his day for incompetence
and assuming that the comparison of future planetary configurations
with those accompanying known past events could actually predict
what would happen in the future. Research suggests that much of his
prophetic work paraphrases collections of ancient end-of-the-world
prophecies (mainly Bible-based) . One of his major prophetic sources
was evidently the Mirabilis Liber of 1522, which contained a range
of prophecies by Pseudo-Methodius, the Tiburtine Sibyl, Joachim of Fiore, Savonarola and others (his Preface contains 24 biblical quotations, all but two in the order used by Savonarola) .
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

The poet has done well to provide a basic idea of who Nostradamus was and what his book '‘Les Propheties' is all about. The poet has also expressed his reservations about the veracity of the predictions supposedly contained in the book. It serves as an eye-opener interpretation. Thanks.

I thank you for your kind comment. Others were apparently irritated with the change, but I don't want to propagate falsehood. Astrology will never replace true prophecy.
