Not Maple
By a fir, in the hedge,
Saw a leaf, brown, dead.
Placed it in my paddle,
Planned to write a poem.
I had thought to focus,
On its bones and its veins,
And if could, its flesh.
All were worn and damaged,
And the liquids had vapored.
But, sadly, the paddle
Had lost it, disappeared
What had me inspired…
So, I wrote a eulogy,
For a leaf, lost friend.
What was it?
Do not know,
Whatever,
Not Maple!
