Not So Far Away Poem by Mark Heathcote

Not So Far Away

See out there in the distance, not so far away.
There's a porch light that hasn't been lit for very long.
Shining silver and green like a burning log,
Shining gold and blue like a myrtle tree.
Oh, it must be a widow with tears dissipating into the fog.
I wish she could find someone again, another true love.

See out there in the distance, not so far away.
There's a porch light that hasn't been lit for very long.
Listen very hard, and you can hear an angel's wings beating.
Listen very hard and hear an old lady's heart sing.
It must be that she's found her life isn't over yet.
It must be that she's found another good reason to live.
To leave her porch light glowing on.

Oh, did you ever see the fireflies bat away all the smoke?
Festoon the morning stream, not knowing where to go.
Soon we'll all be drifting on, not so far away.
To a porch light, that's Infinitely brighter that's all I can say.
