Not: To Wear Cloth Of Gold Poem by Mary Angela Douglas

Not: To Wear Cloth Of Gold

not: to wear cloth of gold or sparkling slippers

constitutes the best wish in the land

more to the point to harbor hidden treasures

invisibly you understand

when you are older, when the fairy dust shies away

and you are left to face the everyday

how will you manage it

keep the stories close

inside your mind

and cross stitched on your heart

that you or I

may play our ignoble parts

right royally.
