Numb Inside - Poem by Cat Summers

I am numb inside,
An emotional roller coaster ride?
Just the opposite, I am numb
Holding on to bankrupt emotions
The only money I have left
Has slipped between the cracks

It’s like novicane
Pumping steady through my brain
Numbing hopes of loving you
As it beats emotion down
To where all feeling dissolves into numbness

Something must be wrong
When you wonder if you love anyone
A monster buried deep with the numb
It feeds, it lives, it grows ¬stronger
Numbing me so that if the world died around me
I wouldn’t blink a caring eye

The numbness keeps raining down on me
Covering me, smothering me
As my body soaks up more and more
But I can still breathe
And I can only wonder
This numbness
How long will it last?
