Oath Breakers Ancient: A Discordant Legacy Poem by Terence George Craddock

Oath Breakers Ancient: A Discordant Legacy

Rating: 5.0

oath is sworn does it matter to who?
oath is sworn does it matter when?
how long ago under what conditions?

oath to self friend relative ruler?
sworn upon what does it matter?
broken upon what conditions or none?

will lord attack lord robber baron
against robber baron or against who's rule?
will tribe clan nation or nations rise
in revolt seize what lands palaces resources?

when rebels rise rabid will rebels kill or imprison
supporters of rule opposed they rebellion rise against?
will most powerful influential fight with peers peasants
for greed personal advantage religion or nationalism?

when pledged oath is sworn obedience given
is it sacrosanct inviolable or can oath be broken?
how can an oath given be honour broken?

will an oath of loyalty be broken by division religion?
will an oath of loyalty be broken by claimed independence?
will an oath of nationality be broken by cause emancipation?
civil rights voting rights right to freedom release from slavery?

class betrayal by attempting to raise up the common people?
unholy notion to raise up common people against their betters?
is making poor lives of common people raised up better just?
has not dull arrogance of class elitism had its day its centuries?

is a king who betrays his people over religion worthy to be king?
is an oath to prince king emperor greater than divine fear of God?
does a king emperor inherit rule by divine right immutable?

how can leaders get away with distortions of truth obvious facts?
how will master manipulator recruit people to racist personal cause?
will people believe half truths distortions lies if told often enough?
will people believe if falsehoods lies are what heart wants to believe?

the power of lies reflecting peoples fears knows few boundaries?
do spoilt rich not have an irrational fear of losing coveted wealth?
do leaders dictators not have a fear of losing their power irrational?
pretenders to throne will claim the throne if they coup can believe?

who will deceit sow seed of dissent
among good common gullible people?
who will stir bitter ashes civil unrest?

malice sown on flame red wind seeds successful lies
rumour planted lies revenge fanned false accusations
sown from how tiny a grain of venom distorted truth?

successful lies are malice sown on flame red wind
fire cleanses in fire storms political plagues spreading
intolerance arrogance greed flesh burns victim cultures

ask questions of government ask for a just humane society
do citizens of a country a nation have a right to equality?
is law created administered fairly for all or favours an elite?
