Ojimu Sunday David

Rookie (Lagos / Lagos)

October 1st - Poem by Ojimu Sunday David

Here we go again our fatherland is going to be fifty
When I say fifty I mean a fully grown man
A man that has attained full maturity
Fifty we will be but we are still struggling within
Age we can boast of but achievement we are void of
We are aging and there is nothing for us to fall back on as achievement
It saddens my heart to acknowledge that our fatherland is a pillaged nation
Development has eluded this nation and here we are calling ourselves giant of Africa
What an irony
I am sure they meant the midgets of our dear continent
Time is elapsing and nature calls
If something is not done to amend the predator eating this nation from the bedrock
Then I think this nation will soon be an arena for political tussle and power scuffle
But what can we the poor masses do than to hope
That one day we will get there if we will choose to do it right and get to our canaanland
That very place where every born Nigerian can look each other in the face with contentment
And say with genuine and integrity filled happiness to one another
Happy Independence
