Ode To A Daughter's Steadfast Love Poem by Doris Cornago

Ode To A Daughter's Steadfast Love

Rating: 5.0

The wind beneath my wings says the song
But more than this, the attention lasts
Longer, when we're just sitting
Idling the time away
Not requiring
A token
Just
The certainty
Of steadfast love
Which never demands
Demonstration, just an ear
A closeness, a hand to hold when cold
Swimming, parkouring, aikido, all she can do
Pales in comparison to what her heart needs, a refuge

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I have gone the full length, questioned how anyone can be taken in their sleep, without a chance of a leavetaking from anyone's life. What were my husband's last thoughts? What words were on his lips? How about my son? Did he even know he was being taken away in his sleep? The dead are laid to rest, but their families are forever conflicted, wondering how death could have been prevented. Having gone through sorrows and victories together, my daughter and I feel closer and bonded together against the vicissitudes of life. The womb is where this relationship begins and goes through eternity, a mother and her child.
