Ode To Parks And Rec. Poem by RJ Cook

Ode To Parks And Rec.

Ode to Lake Oswego Parks and Rec. -

Most citizens of Oswego, like Parks and Rec. a lot,
neighbors living by new parks, our guess is they will not.

Sewer being tunneled, under waters of Pecan Creek,
people living downstream hope pipes will never leak.

Check in at the Rec. Center, a round of golf to play,
Parking with the swimmers maybe a factor to stay away.

The driving range extended, hope your timing is just right,
High School out at 3pm congestion will be a sight.

Clubhouse reconfigured, hold weddings, classes by the bunch,
No place for a post golf beer, no chance to stay for lunch.

Just down the road a piece, oh for goodness sake, a big concrete palace, where skaters will go to skate.

Forgetting wildlife corridors and all the sensitive lands, no money or mitigation, it was never in the plans.

Traffic, Traffic, Traffic will be the shouts of many,
falling on deaf ears that belong to most in our lovely City.

Roundabout soon at failure, don't fix it not just yet,
wait 10 years to correct it, using County money we will bet!

A "world class" pool among us "Top Notched" Rec. Center to adore,
$30 Million in bond dollars, and now you want $7 Million More?

The lights, the turf and traffic, things we're all shouting about,
we wished we never had the reasons, to have to call you out.

Impacts of all projects, discussions we can't wait, to get the plans corrected would be super, would be GREAT!

Nothing I can state or do might satisfy your rules,
Hoping that the engineers use "Good Judgement" as their tools.

Appreciate the opportunity, testimony different from all of the rest,
122-year Hazelia stewardship, thinking we might know what is best.

Parks and Rec., City Council, your park labors have been long,
But if we agreed on everything, might we all be very wrong.

So, City Council, Boards and Commissions, we're not here to yell and shout, Please, please come to your senses, slow down we'll help you figure this out!
