Ode To Victor Hugo (22)men With Empty Heads

Ode To Victor Hugo (22)Lean Men With Empty Heads

Poem by Freeyad Ibrahim

'I find Jehovah theory is very tedious.'
said the senator
somewhat flushed with wine
but still urbane,
'It produces nothing but lean men
with empty heads,
I want none of the Great All;
I prefer the Great Nothing
which leaves me untroubled.
Between ourselves,
as though you were my confessor,
I will declare to you,
I'm a man of plain sense,
I am not in love with your Jesus,
who went about
preaching renunciation,
A mister's advice to beggars.
Renunciation for what reason
Sacrifice to what end?
I have never heard of a Wolf
sacrifice itself
for the good of another wolf.'
