Ode To Victor Hugo (61) 'the Miserable' Is Hugo's Story

All efforts from Jean Valjean,
Who stands for Victor Hugo in the novel
both good and convicted, to bring Fantine's daughter,
Cossette, back, failed.

A Line of Hugo's poem lamenting her in this way
(When I saw her open her wings and fly away,
the child I had just now, what!
I Don't have her anymore.)
That is how Léopoldine drowned in the Sein.
And that is how died Fantine:
(At deathbed Fantine reached out her arms,
in gesture of anguish and with open hands
groped like a person in the act if (drowning.)
When Jean Valjean asked Javert
to bring the unfortunate Woman's child back
It was Hugo's voice praying God to
Give him his daughter back.

'I'll pay you anything you like."
Said Jean Valjean to Javert.
Hugo too would give anything
to God to give him back Léopoldine!

Both prayers were unanswered.
