Ode To Victor Hugo (71) -The Miserable- (Meekness Raised To Saintliness)

By Freeyad Ibrahim

Meekness raised to saintliness

Baptistine the bishop myriel's sister
Tall
Pale
Thin
Gentle
A perfect expression
Of all that is implied by the word ‘respectable'
Never been pretty
Her life occupied by good works
That Endowed her with a kind of pallor
And luminosity
As she grew older
She had acquired the beauty of goodness
She was spirit more thans he was virgin
Nevertheless she allowed no signs of
weakness
Her being seemed to be composed of shadow
With too little substance for it to possess seks
Her good nature had been her richness
It was a shred of matter harbouring a light
With large eyes
That were always cast down;
a pretext for a soul to linger on earth
with a lowered but delighted sight
