Often Times Poem by Phillip Nine Mafunga

Often Times

Often times, alone I jus' sit
Jus' sit n' stare at the emptiness in my head
Often times, from the emptiness o' the great vast
I draw inspiration to write
Often times, I write not ‘cause I've anything worthy to wax lyrical about
Rather I write ‘cause I've the semantics to toy ‘round with
Often times, my thoughts're in colour n' sound; beautiful sound to add
Throbbing, driving beat that bounces off the walls of alien worlds
Often times, I decide to write
Jus' to talk the infinite night away
Often times, I try to write ‘bout the flimsiness of love
When lovers try to amortize every, smile, every wink n' every touch
Often times, I write to detox
Writing's a prayer for personal sanity n' sobriety
