Old Age Poem by suja nair

Old Age

He was very old, days just flew by...
Sitting on a chair, in the garden,
Looking at don't know what, contemplating,
Life, it was at the fag end.

Looking back, at the times spent,
It was a tiresome one, running between
Time and responsibilities.....
He feels his duty was done,

But there are always moans and cries..
from the younger generation....
May be, my duty was not complete,
He feels now,
May be I should have planned it better...

Thoughts run through his mind,
His wife was not of much help.....
But also, may be she has done her best
This is what, she feels, May be....

As he sits taking in the early morning sun rays..
His mind is in turmoil, He hopes....
Death is inevitable, but let it be painless...
God is he there, did I ever pray to him....

His mind roles back to his childhood...
Those wonderful days spent with his parents...
His carefree days, His service in the Army...
And those Youthful days, Life was Carefree.

He was a handsome man, Very intelligent..
May be his potential was not used to the maximum...
Did he meet someone, did he fall in Love...
Did Life stop there, thoughts rushing through his mind.

Finally, its all over and done...
I have done my best, I have lived my Life..
What Best I could is handed over in full,
Now the only wait, wait for a call....

These thoughts keep going through his mind,
He is upset at times, Happy at times,
Unwell at times, Healthy at times...
Time just goes by, unaware of his thoughts...
and he is waiting....... waiting for his morning tea..
