On Sands Of Time Poem by Ranjit Ravindran

On Sands Of Time

At fifteen thousand feet,
Above the sea level,
On one of the peaks,
Of the Himalayan ranges,
I waded my way,
Through waist deep snow,
Ignoring the heaviness,
Of my frozen foot,
And the numbness,
Of my gloved hand,
In search of a perfect spot,
To engrave my name,
On the powdery snow.

My friends joined me,
In this autograph session;
And the landscape transformed,
Into a lovely memorial.

'Like the sands of time,
This will soon be levelled! '
Teased my naughty mind.

Unwilling to give up,
I drew my camera,
And froze this etching;
Just to satisfy,
My unforgiving ego!

Title Credit:
This poem was written after my friend Prof. Indira Babbllapati posted the comment 'Ranjit on sands of time' under a photograph which has my name written on snow. I retained her comment as the title fot this poem. Thank you ma'am.
